Seeing Rainbows

Dear Christian brother or sister, can I ask you if you've cringed at the sight of a rainbow lately? Cringing wasn't what God has in mind when He made it, you know. I'm sure you've seen the "skittle wars" on social media. Perhaps you wished you could just take a giant sponge to that Facebook wall of yours and wash it all down?

Can I lovingly impore you to pause for a moment in your angst, in your anxiety-filled heart and take a deep breath?

(Breathe.)

Lean in close now.

Do you think that God in all His sovereignty doesn't still see His promise? Yes it's being used to promote something else. But God's ways are so much higher than ours.

When God placed His rainbow in the sky, it was a promise to mankind that reflected Himself. A promise that was full of mercy, full of slow-to-anger, full of life. Do you think this promise has been removed somehow? It's still day--are there not rainbows that continue to fill His sky?

Can I ask you to do something? Instead of getting soap-boxy about God's symbol, instead of getting high and mighty and taking up a case for God about His rainbow He made, humble yourself. And pray.

Did you not also need His mercy, His undeserved grace to fill your dark skies with His promise?

When you see a rainbow banner, flag, tee, bumper sticker--or anything else that's being marketed in that manner, don't get spatty about it. Throwing around cliches that rallies the camps to arms is not what the rainbow was meant to invoke. Instead of passing judgement through anger-filled flippant comments--see the mercy promise, remember what it means, what it meant for you when you came to Christ. Above all, remember Who sent it and why. That gift of grace is still extended to all until the day Jesus comes. Right now it just so happens to be painted in bright fashion on those God longs to heal. How great in His wisdom to remind us that they are also marked for His grace--and it's still day.

Humble yourself, and pray.
